We've been really busy this month here at Voice Apps!

In case you missed it, here are all the great new features we've added for you in August.  Keep an eye out for even more great features in September!

Canvas Changes

Quick Create Blocks

We've made creating and connecting blocks much easier.  Simply hover over a block and a connection arrow will appear.  Click the arrow and a new block will be created and automatically connected to the target block.

Drag To Connect Blocks

You can also connect existing blocks just as easily.  Again, hover over the source block and the connection arrow will appear.   This time, drag the connection arrow to a target block and the two blocks will be connected.

Zoom Controls

We've always supported pinch to zoom in and out on the canvas.  Now we've added buttons for zooming in and out as well.

Zoom To Fit

You can now click a button and automatically move/zoom your project to fit in the viewing window.   This is can be especially useful if you accidentally zoom/move your project out of the view window.

Connection Lines

We've added curved connection lines as the default connection type.  We think the curved lines look cleaner on the canvas, but you can choose which line type you want to use for your projects.

We've also separated the connection points for the lines, so they don't overlap.  The lines will automatically change their connection points to minimize any overlap.

And by the way, you aren't limited to just a left to right direction of your project.  The lines adjust automatically to any direction.

Project Settings

The new Project Settings tab can be found on the Settings Toolbar by clicking the Settings Button at the top-left of the canvas.

Edit Project Name

You can now edit the Project Name without leaving the Project Editor.  We'll be adding the other settings here in a future release.

Set Default Voice

This new feature allows you to set the voice that will be used for all of your Voice Responses in your project.  This was fixed to Alexa's voice before this release. You can still override this setting for each Voice Response.

Permissions Settings

Voice Apps will now automatically ask the user for their permission to access personal information like Name, Address, E-mail, and Phone Number.   If these permissions are granted by the user, Voice Apps will automatically retrieve the requested information for you and store it in new built-in variables.

Responses Tab

We've also made several changes to the Responses tab of the Block Editor.

Short Audio Response

You've always been able to host your audio files for free with Voice Apps Hosting, but now we've integrated our hosting with the Short Audio Response to make the process even easier.

Just drag and drop or select your audio files.  Voice Apps will automatically convert your audio file to the correct format for Alexa and Google and host it for you in our worldwide Content Delivery Network (CDN) to give end users the best playback experience.  Of course, like always, you can choose to host the files yourself if you choose.

We've also added an audio preview feature so you can listen to your audio files right in the Voice Apps editor.

Permissions Request

Along with the Permissions Settings described earlier, you can now ask the user for permission to access personal information on demand with the new Permissions Request feature.

Conclusion

In addition to the big changes listed above, we've made tons of minor improvements and bug fixes.   We hope you'll let us know what you think of these changes.  We'd love to hear from you!

If there are other features you think we should add, we'd love to hear about that as well!

Much more will come in September!
